Hospital Policies & Information

Appointment Policy

Patients are seen by appointment only. Our standard appointment times are 30 minutes in length. If a longer appointment is required, we will extend it to the appropriate time. Once you have established a Vet/Client/Patient relationship, you may schedule simple health maintenance appointments with a Technician for needs such as monthly injections, nail trims, and anal gland expression, as long as you do not have any other concerns. However, if you need to discuss anything with a doctor, a regular office exam will be required.

The State of Colorado requires yearly preventative exams (routine wellness exams). Establishing this relationship on an annual basis is required by law so our veterinarians can legally administer vaccines, fill medications, and provide advice and care to you and your pet.

La Plata County legally requires all dogs and cats to be vaccinated for rabies virus unless medically contraindicated as determined by a veterinarian. For the safety of our staff, this is a requirement that we follow for all of our furry friends/patients. For additional information on this legal requirement please visit: https://online.encodeplus.com/regs/la-plata-co/doc-viewer.aspx#secid-421

We do our best to book you and your pet with the doctor of your choosing- please specify at the time of appointment booking who you would like to see. If a preference is not expressed, we do our best to schedule with the doctor you have seen most recently in order to provide the best continuity of care. Due to our doctors’ busy schedules and your unanticipated emergencies, there may be times when your pet will see another doctor at our facility. Please be understanding of this process. We will do our best to communicate this with you as you are scheduling your appointment.

We highly recommend lab work for our patients along with heartworm testing/prevention and flea/tick prevention. Patients of all ages with chronic health concerns and/or requiring regular refills of daily medication (allergies, diabetes, thyroid disorders, etc.) may be required to follow up as instructed by your doctor, usually every 3-6 months.

For our snowbirds with a primary vet in their hometown, we want to continue giving your pet the best care and the medications they need. Please prepare for your vacation by having your current veterinarian send over all updated records and prescriptions. An exam may or may not be required depending on your last visit with us. All records and prescriptions can be sent to bakersbridgevetclinic@gmail.com.

Appointment Reminders:

As a courtesy, our program, PetDesk will send you a text as a reminder and confirmation of your upcoming appointment. Y to confirm, N to cancel and STOP to end text communication. If you choose to STOP or do not respond we will be giving you a courtesy call the day before to confirm your appointment and two days before a surgical procedure.

In the Event of an Emergency

We do our best to accommodate any emergencies that need to be seen. We have appointments set aside daily for this purpose. If all spots are booked, we offer drop-off appointments that will give our doctors time to take care of your pet in between current appointments. While we know you would prefer to be here for these appointments, it is not always possible as we are trying to work your pet into an already busy schedule. But don’t worry, your pet will be well treated in your absence and we will do our best to minimize time in our facility as our schedule allows. Oftentimes these more urgent cases also require diagnostics (bloodwork or x-rays) which also take additional time to perform.

In the event that our doctors deem a case critical, where 24-hour care may be necessary, or if they feel that a specialist may be required, they will refer you to our nearest emergency/specialty clinic, which may be in Albuquerque, Grand Junction, Denver, Colorado Springs, or Fort Collins. We DO NOT have 24 hour care at our hospital and there are currently no other facilities in the Durango/Four Corners area that do offer this service.

After-hours emergencies: There are six veterinary clinics in Durango with many different doctors who alternate nights and weekends to reduce the burden from any single doctor/facility. This service is designed to provide you with advice and care outside of regular business hours and on holidays. As long as you are an established client with us, the emergency doctor should see you. Calling our number at 970-247-4701 will get you to an automated message that will link you with the clinic that is on call for the night or weekend. We will be informed of your emergency visit the following business day and will follow up with you as necessary (of course with more pressing questions, feel free to reach out to us during regular business hours).

Late Arrivals

If you are running late to an appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, we ask that you please call our office to let us know that you’re on your way so that the doctors can continue to see patients in a timely manner. Please be aware that notifying us of a late arrival does not guarantee you will be seen and you may be asked to reschedule your appointment.

Cancellations and no-shows

We request that you call us 24 hours in advance to cancel your appointment and 48 hours for surgical procedures. Canceling a few hours before your appointment will incur a no show fee. Anyone who does not show for their scheduled appointment will incur a $70 no-show fee, $35 for technician appointments and a $125 fee for surgeries. You must pay this fee before rescheduling.

Payment Policy

Payment is required at the time service is rendered. Unfortunately, we cannot provide payment plans. However, we do recommend Care Credit and can provide you with information if needed. We do have the option of saving your credit or debit cards to your file for a smooth check out. Once the invoice is paid, we will provide you with an itemized receipt via email. If you leave without paying we will charge the card on file at the end of the day. If you do not have a card on file we will reach out to you weekly for up to three months before passing the case on to collections.

Prescription & Refills

Please allow 24-48 hours for any medication refills through our hospital. If you are ordering online, you may do so through Blue Rabbit. If another online pharmacy is approved by your doctor there may be an additional refill fee from our facility.

Up-to-Date Contact Information

Please remember to provide us with up-to-date contact information such as phone, email and home address each time you come into the hospital so that we can contact you with scheduling issues, test results, upcoming vaccinations and appointment confirmations. Primary phone numbers and emails will be linked to PetDesk for easy communication and reminders.

Medical Records

We will email records, at your request, at no charge to you or a facility of your choosing. This process may take up to several days to verify records have been completed.

Waiting Room

Please keep all dogs on a short leash while in the waiting room. For infection control and safety purposes, if your dog is coughing, vomiting, or having diarrhea, please call before entering the building. Cats are to remain in their carriers or on a leash for their safety. If you need assistance getting your pet to and from your vehicle, please let us know. We are happy to help.

If your pet is reactive or aggressive to other persons or animals, please let us know before entering the building. We will make sure the waiting room is clear and calm to bring your pet in.

Mutual Respect

Our office is our work home and you are our welcomed guest. We expect all of our guests to treat our staff and work home with full respect, as any guest in any home. We will not tolerate abuse in any way, physical or verbal. In return, we expect our guests to be treated not only with respect, but with kindness in all interactions. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the service or care provided by Baker’s Bridge Veterinary Clinic, please let us know about it. You may express your concern to your pets’ doctor or to our practice manager.

Termination

We have the right to terminate a relationship with any client/family who is verbally (or physically) abusive with any of our doctors or staff, who slanders/libels/commits defamation of our hospital in any form, who has 2 or more no shows (which will be charged $70 for each no show), or who does not pay at the time that service was rendered. In the case of termination, we will send your pet’s records to the hospital of your choosing.
